- Which school or university gives them the best chance?
- Are they on the right path or are they wasting time?
- What do they need to do to get noticed by selectors?
What this is
Professional judgement from someone who has lived and experienced the ups and downs of the game
Face to face with Shamsi
With the Pathway Consultation or the Complete Review you sit down with Shamsi himself on a live video call. He has already watched your footage, so the whole live video call is about your cricket. Ask him anything and leave with a clear plan, without ever leaving your home.
Shamsi in your corner
Trials coming up? Choosing a school, a club or a team? Not sure if you are on the right path? Shamsi helps you make those big decisions with almost 20 years of experience in the professional game and the inside knowledge of what coaches and selectors look for.
His view in writing
The Complete Review also gives you Shamsi’s written assessment to keep: what you do well, what to work on and the steps to the next level. Prefer only the written view? The Player Assessment gives you that on its own.

How it runs
After payment you answer three short questions and upload the player’s footage so Shamsi comes prepared. You tell us when you are generally free. Shamsi then offers you times for your live video call shown in your own time zone. You pick one and get reminders before the live video call. Your live video call usually takes place within 14 days of valid footage.
You also upload up to 10 minutes of footage so Shamsi has seen the player before you speak. Choose the Complete Review if you'd also like a written assessment and a longer 45-minute live video call.
Parents are welcome
Parents are welcome and encouraged to sit in on the live video call too and have their questions answered about the player’s future. Whether you want a player-only discussion or a joint parent and player discussion, the choice is yours. Shamsi wants you to get the most out of the live video call in whichever way works best for you.

Complete Shamsi Cricket Review
Shamsi watches and analyses the player’s footage first. He then writes a personalised assessment of the player’s game for you to keep. Finally you have a private 45-minute live video call with him about where the player stands, what matters next and the decisions in front of you. With his written assessment already in hand, you can really zone in on the details and leave with a solid plan for moving forward.
In this order
- Questionnaire including your questions for the live video call
- Footage upload and automatic checks
- Shamsi's written assessment
- Your consultation booked once the assessment is delivered
Why the order matters
The live video call builds on what Shamsi has already seen. You spend your 45 minutes on what the assessment means and what to do about it instead of explaining the basics.
You only fill in the player's details once. They carry through to both parts.
Parents are welcome

About the founder
Tabraiz Shamsi
Cricket by Shamsi is founded by international cricketer Tabraiz Shamsi. He has almost 20 years in the professional game and when you book it is his judgement you are getting.
A career at the highest level
He was told that he was not good enough to even be selected in the school under 14A team. He turned that into motivation and became the number one bowler in the world!
At an under 14 school trial Shamsi was told he could not be a fast bowler. He turned to left-arm wrist spin and went on to be ranked number one in the world among T20I bowlers. He is one of only two Proteas men’s bowlers to reach number one in the T20I rankings.
He played 5 World Cups for South Africa from the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and Wales to the 2024 T20 World Cup.
He has also played in the world’s major franchise T20 competitions including the Indian Premier League, the Big Bash League, the SA20, the Pakistan Super League, The Hundred, the Caribbean Premier League, the ILT20 and the Lanka Premier League as well as county cricket in England. That has given him first hand experience of the dressing rooms, conditions and coaching cultures of the cricket world.
Not only did he learn how to bowl around the world and against the best in the world, Shamsi also shared the dressing room with the best batters from all over the world and got to see how they train, what makes them the best and ask them how they succeed against the very best bowlers in the world in the toughest batting conditions.
There is no substitute for first hand experience and now you have the opportunity to get those real insights and apply them to your own game!
He once held South Africa’s records for the most T20I wickets and the most T20I Player of the Match awards and he has won South African domestic titles with the Titans, Paarl Rocks and KZN Inland to go with overseas franchise titles around the world.
Along the way he has been through selection and non-selection, comebacks and the pressure of the biggest matches in the game. Those are exactly the moments players and parents want advice about.

Why this matters
Today’s standards passed on first hand.
Everything at Cricket by Shamsi comes from what the professional game demands today rather than what it demanded a decade ago. The standards, the preparation and the small habits that decide whether a talented player goes on to make a career of it are passed on first hand by someone who has lived them.
“Professional cricket has taught me that talent alone does not determine success. The players who reach the highest level are those who combine ability with the right mindset, preparation and hunger to keep improving.”
Tabraiz Shamsi · Founder
What that means for your assessment
Talent is where Shamsi starts and not where he stops.
He looks at the player using the footage and what you tell him about the player’s situation.
Where the player’s game stands today measured against the level they are aiming for.
How the player approaches their cricket and how they are likely to handle pressure, setbacks and selection.
The habits and routines around the game that professionals rely on and most young players overlook.
Whether the player has a clear direction for improving and what to focus on next to keep moving forward.
